First of all, Silicon PU materials have excellent waterproof and breathable properties. They prevent external moisture from seeping in while allowing minor vapor from the base to escape. This balance keeps the surface layer stable and well-adhered.
Secondly, the base treatment is critical. The subfloor must be completely dry, clean, and free of cracks or hollow spots before applying the coatings. Construction should be avoided during rainy or overly humid weather. Otherwise, trapped moisture could cause bubbling later on.
How to Solve Existing Blistering/Delamination?
If problems have already occurred, small patches are often only a temporary fix. The following steps are recommended:
Locate and Cut: Accurately mark the blistered areas and use a concrete saw to make clean cuts around the perimeter of the blister.
Clean and Dry: Remove all loose, damp old material from within the blistered area, fully exposing the base. Use a blowtorch or hot air blower to thoroughly dry the base.
Repair and Rebuild:
Re-apply the high-performance waterproof primer.
Fill the area with new silicone PU material, following the original construction process and layering, paying special attention to blending the seams with the surrounding sound area.
For extensive, severe blistering, the most thorough solution is to remove the entire surface layer, re-treat the base, and then install a new full pavement system.
